  • Permanent makeup requires infrequent maintenance. Fading of your tattoo will happen slowly over time and may get to a point where it is undetectable by you, but there are no guarantees. In order to maintain its color, shape and detail, refresh appointments are needed. The length of time and condition of fading is unique to the individual - variables to consider are lifestyle choices, skin health/integrity, use of skin care products, age and also techniques/technology within the cosmetic tattoo industry. For most people, their tattoo will last between 1-3 years before booking a refresh.

In some cases, the pigment will never entirely disappear and may leave a faint shadow in the skin.

Lasting effects can depend on a variety of factors. One would include the type of pigment implanted and depth.

    • Inorganic pigments : colors are more earthy, larger molecule, heal soft, more stable in the skin avoiding migration. Tend to fade warmer over time (has iron oxide base - black breaks down to red) it has less retention and will get lighter as it lifts up out of the skin as it ages.

    • Hybrid : combination of inorganic and organic usually fades evenly as it ages.

    • Organic : colors are more vibrant and bold, smaller molecule, migration rate is higher, fades cooler and more dull (black carbon base does not shift red) it has more retention and as it ages it goes deeper in the skin. Can stay in skin forever and would need laser or saline to be removed.

    • Oily skin does not retain pigment well. It will fade much quicker than normal to dry skin types

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS TO KEEP YOUR TATTOO FRESH FOR LONGER :

    • Exposure to the sun over time can cause fading and discoloration of the pigment. Once completely healed, apply sunscreen daily on the treated area. Wear large sunglasses and a hat for further protection.

    • Glycolic acid, microdermabrasion, chemical face peel products and laser treatments must be kept away from the tattooed area as continued use could lighten or discolor the pigment.

    • If you are having laser resurfacing or laser hair removal after your tattoo has healed, please inform the laser technician. Continue at your own discretion. Laser procedures may darken, lighten, or discolor the tattooed area.

    • Apply a moisturizer as often as needed to help keep skin supple & the tattoo from fading faster.

THERE ARE NO IMPLIED OR WRITTEN GUARANTEES IF YOU DO NOT TAKE CARE OF YOUR TATTOO, AND EVERYONE WILL HEAL A LITTLE DIFFERENTLY.
